PROPHETS
The Major Prophets in the Bible include Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, and Daniel. Isaiah, known as the "Prince of Prophets," prophesied during the 8th century BCE, foretelling the coming of the Messiah and offering messages of hope and redemption. Jeremiah, often called the "Weeping Prophet," warned Judah of impending destruction due to their disobedience and called for repentance. Lamentations, traditionally attributed to Jeremiah, mourns the fall of Jerusalem. Ezekiel, a priest and prophet, delivered messages of judgment and restoration, including the famous vision of the valley of dry bones symbolizing Israel's restoration. Daniel, during the Babylonian exile, interpreted dreams and visions, prophesying about the rise and fall of kingdoms, the coming of the Messiah, and the end times.
The Minor Prophets, comprising twelve shorter books, include Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. These prophets addressed various issues such as social injustice, idolatry, and impending judgment. Hosea symbolized God's love for Israel through his marriage to an unfaithful wife. Jonah famously preached to Nineveh, a city known for its wickedness, urging repentance and experiencing God's compassion. Malachi, the last prophet in the Old Testament, confronted the people's spiritual apathy and anticipated the coming of the Messiah.
