MICAH
Micah, one of the minor prophets in the Old Testament, prophesied during the 8th century BCE. His book is set against a backdrop of social injustice and corruption in Judah and Israel. Micah condemns the leaders and wealthy elite for their exploitation of the poor and their failure to uphold justice. He emphasizes that true worship of God involves not just ritualistic sacrifices but also righteous living and justice.
Micah is well-known for his prophetic messages about the coming judgment on both Israel and Judah. He predicts the destruction of Jerusalem and Samaria due to their sinful ways. However, amidst the warnings of judgment, Micah also delivers messages of hope and restoration. He foretells the coming of a future ruler from Bethlehem who will bring peace and justice, which Christians believe refers to the birth of Jesus Christ. Micah's message balances judgment with hope, reflecting a vision of both accountability and the promise of redemption.
