If we're honest with the scriptures there are a plethora of verses to indicate the second coming already happened. How could we say such a bold statement. You could be thinking there is no way Christ returned because there is still evil on earth, still Satan and his demons, still death, still a curse on our lives, there has been no resurrection or maybe you are thinking this certainly isn't the new earth or new heaven. We won't get into those points in this article (we do go into these further on on-line bible studies); we will just take some simple straight forward scriptures for example Satan was going to be crushed soon Rom 16.20. If Christ returned already as being proposed here what is in the Bible for me. Revelation 14:6 says that the gospel or good news is going to be an everlasting gospel, meaning that every generation is going to need the good news told or preached to them. (Read more on what's in the Bible for me if Christ returned already.)
Rev 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
Here are three heavy hitters that we need to take literally in the context of time and who was being spoken too. First Matthew 16.27-28 speaking to the disciples Christ tells them some of them would still be alive when He returned the second time. This verse was spoken to them that they would be alive at Jesus second coming not that we in the future would be alive. See a long list of scriptures not just the heavy hitters. Next heavy hitter is Christ says to the other disciples what is it to you other disciples if the disciple that whom I love remains alive until I return; Joh 21.22. The final of many heavy hitters we will mention is 1 Thes 4.15-17 , speaking to the Thessalonian church some there were going to remain alive until Christ came a second time.
A misconception is that the earth is going to be burned up. However God promised to never destroy the earth again after the flood (Gen 8.21) and the scriptures are filled with scriptures stating that the earth will be an everlasting earth. The misconception is because elements is often thought of in 2 Peter in today's society as periodic element chart that atoms make up everything, however the elements being spoken of are the elements of the old law are going to be burned up.
As a P.S. Will just leave these two scriptures also to meditate on; "Give him glory in the church and in Christ Jesus. Give him glory through all time and for ever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:21 (NIrV)
"For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation." Isaiah 51:8 (KJV)
